New England Patriot head coach was basically happy with the progress the Patriots have made. A report in the Pawtucket Times states that according to Belichick; there are things we need to work on - things we didn't do right or new things we hadn't seen a lot of that we didn't get right either. The team performed well as they out gained the Cardinals 486-151 in total yards and 42:16-17:44 in time of possession.
-- Patriot wide receiver Bam Childress had a good game against the Cardinals with 3 catches for 75 yards. Head coach Bill Belichick said of Childress; "Bam is a tough, competitive kid, if you look at him, he's not the biggest guy, he's not the fastest guy, but he's a tough competitor. Ian Clark of The Union Leader speculates that despite the lack of depth, holdout wide receiver Deion Branch, rookie Chad Jackson and veterans Troy Brown and Reche Caldwell will be the main wide receiver targets for starting quarterback Tom Brady.
- Patriot backup quarterback Matt Cassel played the second half of the game against the Cardinals and did an outstanding job going 14 for 20 for 192 yards and two touchdowns. According to the Boston Globe, Cassel showed enough to keep the Patriots from signing a veteran quarterback to backup starter Tom Brady. I thought he handled himself a lot better this week," Belichick said. As a team we had a good week of practices and Matt had a good week, and as usual, it carried over to the game. I thought he handled the game well."
-- Patriot rookie kicker Stephen Gostkowski was given the assignment to kick the entire game against the Cardinals. He went 3 for 3 in the field goal department with kicks of 37, 33 and 37 yards and was a perfect 3 for 3 in PATs. Belichick commented on Gostkowski s performance; I thought, overall, it seemed like [Stephen] did a pretty good job."
-- Former Arizona Cardinal all pro safety Pat Tillman left the NFL to fight for his country was killed in the line of duty. The NFL dedicated a week of games in honor him in 2004. A New England Patriots fan, Tim Bonin, is trying to do more.
