-- New England Patriots' holdout wide receiver Deion Branch was on CBS-4 in Boston last night. He told Steve Burton of CBS-4; "I'm pretty sure everything's going to work out … " Tom Curran of The Providence Journal summarized Branch's contract offers and reports that; He [Branch] had watched the Patriot's first two preseason games and that the offense was running well. "It will run better, he added, "When and if I get back."

-- The Patriots' top three running backs coming out of camp are veterans Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk and rookie Laurence Maroney A report in the Boston Globe speculates that with veteran running back Patrick Pass still on the 'PUP' list, both veteran Heath Evans and rookie free agent Patrick Cobbs have been given a chance to strut their stuff. Evans and Cobbs played in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals and had impressive outings.

-- Patriot cornerback Asante Samuel is on a 'passes intercepted' streak. The Boston Herald summarized the streak which started Dec. 26, 2005, against the N.Y. Jets and is still in progress when he intercepted a pass against the Cardinals last Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.

-- The Patriot's have traded offensive tackle Brandon Gorin to the Arizona Cardinals for an undisclosed draft pick. With one lineman gone speculation was that Nick Kaczur would soon be removed from the 'PUP' list. Yesterday, that speculation became reality as Kaczur practiced for the first time since being placed on PUP July 27th.

-- Last week Junior Seau retired from the NFL and shortly after signed a contract to play with the New England Patriots. Seau started practicing yesterday and played inside linebacker next to Mike Vrabel. Tully Banta-Cain and Rosevelt Colvin were on the outside. According to head coach Bill Belichick, this is not the first time the Patriots have recruited 'over-the-hill' linebackers mentioning both Roman Phiffer and Bryan Cox as examples.

-- Former linebacker Willie McGuinest was recently contaced by Patriot head coach Bill Belichick asking permission for Junior Seau to wear the number 55. Seau wore that number while playing at USC and with the San Diego Chargers. McGinest felt awkward but agreed.
