Day Two, Patriots Add More Players

On the second day of the 2007 NFL Draft, the Patriots loaded up with players, including another trade with Oakland which netted them wide receiver Randy Moss.

Fourth Round (two picks)

The New England Patriots were busy on Day Two of the 2007 NFL Draft. They traded the fourth round pick (110th overall), which they acquired from the San Francisco 49ers on day one, to the Oakland Raiders for disgruntled wide receiver Randy Moss.

The Moss to New England rumors had surrounded the Patriots for some time, but came to a head when the NFL Network reported that a deal was expected on Sunday. That deal was announced today during the Draft as Moss was in New England to take his physical. He joins a roster loaded with talent at the receiver position a year after the team fielded a group of relatively unknowns the season before.

The trade was just the beginning of the team's activities. New England had eight picks left to make on day two, including three slotted picks, four compensatory picks and another (seventh round) selection acquired from their trade with the Raiders on day one.

With their other fourth round pick (slotted), the Patriots selected Miami defensive tackle Kareem Brown. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound interior lineman played alongside former teammate - and first round selection - Brandon Meriweather whom the Patriots Drafted with their only has experience

Fifth Round (one pick)

With their fifth round compensatory pick (171st overall) New England selected Colorado State offensive tackle Clint Oldenburg It is the second year in a row that the Patriots have drafted an offensive tackle in the fifth round. Last year New England selected Ryan O'Callaghan, tackle from California with the 136th pick overall.

Sixth Round (four picks)

The Patriots selected SMU defensive end Justin Rogers in the sixth round (180th overall). The 6-foot-3, 252-pound defender is projected to be an outside linebacker at the next level. The pick was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals in a trade for offensive tackle Brandon Gorin.

New England selected Notre Dame cornerback Mike Richardson with their second sixth round pick (202nd overall).

For the first of their two sixth round compensatory picks the Patriots selected Central Connecticut State running back Justise Hairston (208th overall). A former Rutgers transfer, Hairston led the blue devils with 277 rushes for 1,877 yards (6.7 avg.) and 20 touchdowns.

New England's second compensatory pick in the sixth round (209th overall) was used to select Oklahoma State offensive lineman Corey Hilliard.

Seventh Round (two picks)

In the seventh round the Patriots selected Oscar Lua, linebacker from the University of Southern California (211th overall). The pick was from acquired when the Patriots sent the third round pick this year to Oakland for the Raiders' seventh this year and third round selection next year..

For their final pick, the Patriots selected Iowa guard Mike Elgin with the 37th pick in the seventh round (247th overall). The 6-foot-3, 282-pound lineman has experience playing multiple positions on the interior offensive line.
