Patriots Sign Two More

FOXBORO, Mass. -- The New England Patriots signed two more members of their 2007 draft class Monday. The team reached agreements with fourth-round choice Kareem Brown and seventh-round selection Mike Elgin.

Kareem Brown is a 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman out of the University of Miami (FL). The Patriots selected Brown in the fourth round (127th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.

According to senior NFL writer Adam Caplan, Brown signed a four year deal with base salaries of $285,000 (2007), $370,000 (2008), $460,000 (2009) and $550,000 (2010)

Brown started in 10 games for Miami last season, recording 60 tackles and 11 sacks. The sack total was second highest in the ACC Conference. His performance earned him defensive lineman of the year and All-ACC second team honors.

Mike Elgin, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman, also signed his rookie contract on Monday. Caplan reports that Elgin's deal includes base salaries of $285,000 (2007), $370,000 (2008) and $460,000 (2009).

The Iowa product played multiple positions for the Hawkeyes, including time at both guard and center. Elgin's versatility and commitment to his education landed him first-team academic All-American honors in 2006. He is expected to compete for a reserve role on the Patriots line.

Elgin and Brown's signings leave only first round pick Brandon Meriweather as the only unsigned member of the team's 2007 Draft class.
