After reporting WR Bam Childress' release on Thursday night, the rest of the cuts had to wait until Saturday when the Patriots list became available. Among that group was 43-year old Vinny Testaverde, a mild surprise to be included on the list of the 21 players released.
In addition to the release of WR Bam Childress, which was reported by PatriotsInsider.com on Thursday, the team announced the release of the following players: Vinny Testaverde, Larry Anam, Chad Brown , Chris Dunlap, Mike Elgin, Corey Hilliard, Brian Jones, C.J. Jones, Kelvin Kight, Corey Mays, Garrett Mills, Rashad Moore, Gene Mruczkowski, Clint Oldenburg, Marcellus Rivers, Justin Rogers, Quinton Smith, Santonio Thomas, Dante Wesley, and Zach West.
The Patriots made four moves in addition to the cuts:
TE David Thomas was activated from the PUP list -- a good sign that he has recovered from a broken foot earlier in the off-season.
DE Richard Seymour was moved from training camp PUP to the Reserve/PUP list, which makes him unavailable to play until at least week 7 of the regular season.
LB Oscar Lua was placed on season-ending Reserve/injured list with a knee injury. Lua was hurt at the start of the Patriots final preseason game against the Giants.
S Rodney Harrison was placed on Reserve/suspended to serve his league mandated 4-game suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
The team can add up to 8 players to the practice squad after 12pm on Sunday. Only younger players with less than three season experience are eligible.
