The rumors swirling around disgruntled Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson have been whipped into a frenzy after his erratic behavior at the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii this week. Johnson, who is one of the top wide receivers in the NFL (3rd in the NFL with 93 receptions for 1440 yards and 8 TDs), has escalated his desire to get out of Cincinnati.
The last time a top ranked Bengals offensive player wanted out of Cincinnati, the Patriots stepped into the mix to acquire him. Considered a cancer, Corey Dillon wanted out and the Bengals gladly obliged by shipping him to New England for a second round draft pick. Dillon joined New England, and the team went to the Super Bowl as Dillon set a new franchise record rushing of over 1600 yards.
If the Patriots are unable to retain the services of Randy Moss, Johnson could be considered a viable option. Similar statistics, similar levels of talent, and both have a reputation for being malcontents.
