OPENING COMMENTS FROM DREW ROSENHAUS ON ZACH THOMAS GOING TO DALLAS
Rosenhaus: The Saints and the Patriots were right there. Those teams are great. ... Those organizations are all class and we do a lot of business with all three. But for Zach Thomas being from Texas, the Cowboys had a huge advantage. They were so good last year and they have a great defensive scheme and Zach really likes Wade Phillips. Zach and Wade are a great fit. They are both from Texas. Zach being a Dallas Cowboy is very natural.

WAS PART OF THIS HIS ROLE IN THE DALLAS DEFENSE AND THE FACT THIS COULD BE A GOOD FIT?
Rosenhaus: Initially we were not all that excited about the scheme because it was more the kind of defense Bill Parcells plays. And that's not a good fit for Zach and that's why he's not in Miami anymore. But I believe they are going to use him the way Wade Phillips used Donnie Edwards in San Diego. Which is, Zach will be freed up to make tackles and won't have linemen all over him. Zach has more tackles than anyone in the Pro Football Hall of Fame so you don't want him wasting time on linemen you want him making plays, finishing plays, tackling guys. Zach watched a lot of tape on all the teams, but coming here and meeting with Wade, looking him in the eyes and and discussing that defense was big for us. Economically, it wasn't about money but I told Zach it was important to me we got a good deal and the Cowboys came through.

HOW DID THOMAS NARROW IT DOWN TO THOSE THREE TEAMS? (NEW ENGLAND, DALLAS, NEW ORLEANS)
Rosenhaus: We wanted the right scheme and being on a winning team. The Bills called. The Texans called. They were all interested but we narrowed it down to those three teams. To go to his hometown team where he was borned and raised is unbelievable. He grew up a Cowboys fan. When I said that Terrell Owens signed with the Cowboys it's a match made in heaven. I'll say it again. This feels really good. This is phenomenal. A 10 out of 10. Those teams are great. Those organizations are all class and we do a lot of business with all three. But for Zach Thomas being from Texas, the Cowboys had a huge advantage. They were so good last year and they have a great defensive scheme and Zach really likes Wade Phillips. Zach and Wade are a great fit. Zach being a Dallas Cowboy is very natural.

WAS THE HOMETOWN ADVANTAGE TAKE IT AWAY FROM THE OTHER TEAMS?
Rosenhaus: Yes. My discussions with the Patriots and the Saints I told them, 'you guys are great,' but being in Dallas was something special for Zach. Zach's family is from Texas and that's big. Zach's wife wanted to be there. His grandparents live there. When he told them I heard people screaming in the background.

WHAT ARE THE TERMS OF THE DEAL? IS THIS A DEAL THAT GOES PAST '09?
Rosenhaus: There's a possibility we will do additional years to help the team with the cap number. It's primarily a one-year deal. If it is, it will be voidable on minimum play time. Zach is all about winning a championship. (Terms of the deal are: $3 million deal total, including a $1 million signing bonus, $1 million in base salary and $1 million in incentives.)
