According to a league source, The Patriots have reached a deal with former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sam Aiken today. Aiken, a 5th-year veteran out of North Carolina, was selected by the Bills in the fourth round(127th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.
While the Randy Moss watch continues, the signing of Aiken adds one more receiver to a unit consisting of Kelley Washington, Wes Welker, Chad Jackson and practice squad player C.J. Jones.
Veterans Moss, Troy Brown and Jabar Gaffney are all free agents. Donte Stallworth agreed to a multi-year deal with the Cleveland Browns yesterday.
Aiken played in 64 games with 2 starts for the Bills. He managed 19 receptions for 250 yards. His signing is most likely tied to his special teams performances in Buffalo.
