Patriots Add Three: Player, Smith & Pollard

The New England Patriots added punter Scott Player (Browns) and defensive lineman Kenny Smith (Patriots) to the roster. The team also reportedly agreed to terms with tight end Marcus Pollard. UPDATE: The team confirmed all three players were signed.

The New England Patriots add two more veterans to the roster. New England signed punter Scott Player (Browns) and defensive lineman Kenny Smith (Patriots) to the roster. The team also agreed to terms with tight end Marcus Pollard according to the Boston Globe.

P Scott Player is an interesting signing for the team, as veteran punter Chris Hanson is set to return. Though there were some concerns over Hanson's statistical performance, Player's numbers last season were not significantly different than Hanson's though his net was better - something New England would like to improve.

DL Kenny Smith was last with the Patriots as part of their training camp in 2007. The veteran defender could be part of the defensive line rotation behind Vince Wilfork on the interior.

TE Marcus Pollard would be a much-needed addition to a depleted unit that saw 5 bodies come and go in training camp last season. With the departure of Kyle Brady, the Patriots need another big body to complete their double-tight end sets. The team currently has Ben Watson, David Thomas and Stephen Spach on the roster.
