Scout.com and PatriotsInsider.com's NFL Reporter Adam Caplan confirmed earlier this evening that the Patriots have landed another outside linebacker prospect. Vince Redd, of Liberty has agreed to terms with New England.
Redd, (6-5.5, 265) was projected as a lower round pick, potentially an undrafted rookie free agent. Scout.com ranked him as a late third or fourth round talent. A four star player, Redd projects as the 10th best OLB in the Draft ahead of names like Ali Highsmith (LSU) and Vince Hall (Va. Tech)..
Scouting Report (Tom Marino):
OVA transfer. I liked this player's athletic ability, direction change and potential as a edge pass rusher in a 3-4 scheme. Good stride length to top of the rush. He bends and uses his hands to alter course and finish his rush. He is active within the running game showing both range and instincts. Good wrap up tackler. He can play end in 4-3 scheme. The college competition level is a concern, but this is a talented high ceiling player.
Patriots Insider Impact Analysis:
Redd has potential to have a huge impact on the roster if he can pick up the defense and correct his mistakes. His large frame is enough to anchor an outside linebacker spot on a team in need of solid outside linebackers. Currently projected as low man on the totem pole at the outside spot, if he can repeat his success from Liberty in New England, he'll have little trouble securing a roster spot. Sleeper pick, could end up being as valuable as Pierre Woods (2006 UDFA, Michigan). New England has 11 linebackers on the roster currently (5 outside, 6 inside). The team carried 8 linebackers on the roster last season. (4,4).
