Player, 38, was added to the roster on April 23 to compete with incumbent Scott Hanson and later undrafted rookie free agent, Mike Dragosavich. The 10 season veteran spent the early part of his career bouncing around the CFL and the World League, first signing with the Birmingham Barracudas (1995) then joining the World League's Frankfurt Galaxy (1997). Player spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (1998-2006) and Cleveland Browns (2007). He participated in training camp for the Cardinals (1996) and the New York Giants (1997).
The 6-foot-1, 211-pound Florida State product has appeared in 143 career NFL games, managing 727 punts for 31,345 yards. His career gross average of 43.1 yards per punt is tied for 24th in NFL history among all punters who have totaled at least 250 punts.
Player's departure leaves Chris Hanson as the sole punter on the roster. Rookie Punter Mike Dragosavich was released June 5th.
