Safety John Lynch Visits Patriots

FOXBORO, Mass -- Veteran free agent safety John Lynch was in Foxboro today visiting with the New England Patriots. Released by the Denver Broncos earlier this month, Lynch is looking for the right fit. New England could be that fit.

After three seasons in the Mile high city, John Lynch saw the end of the road. He asked for a meeting with Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan to ask for his release. That release was granted in the first week of August. Lynch said at the time that he didn't feel it was the right fit in Denver, and wanted the opportunity to find a home better suited to his skills. After apologizing for not delivering a championship to Denver, Lynch packed his gear, said his good-byes and hit the open market.

One of the first places Lynch called on was New England. Reports out of Denver indicate that Lynch was in town for a visit and is was set to take a physical today. The 36-year old safety met with the team on Tuesday and could conceivably join the team as early as the end of the day.

New England entered the market for defensive back help when safety Tank Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday night in Foxboro. Williams spent time practicing with the first team defense at inside linebacker, working at providing a run/pass support mix that a safety.
