The New England Patriots parted ways with Marcus Pollard on Tuesday, just a few short months after signing the veteran tight end. He was signed on April 23, 2008.
Patriots head coach felt making the move to release Pollard now, gave him the opportunity to catch on with another team.
"I think with Marcus [Pollard] that it wasn't really going to work out here the way that we had hoped and he had hoped." said Belchick. "There are still a couple preseason games left and time before the season opener and I think there are some other teams that are looking for tight ends and maybe there is a better opportunity for him somewhere else."
During his 13-year career, Pollard played for the Indianapolis Colts (1995-2004), Detroit Lions (2005-06) and Seattle Seahawks (2007).
The team also announced the signing of rookie tight end Tyson DeVree. The Colorado product was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 5, 2008 and released on June 11, 2008.
With DeVree's signing the team still has 5 tight ends on the roster: Ben Watson, David Thomas, Stephen Spach, Jonathan Stupar and DeVree.
