Patriots RB Kevin Faulk Suspended By NFL

FOXBORO -- Patriots running back Kevin Faulk has been suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse program. A league spokesperson announced the 1-game suspension earlier today.

According to a release on the team's website, New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk will miss the season opener for violating league rules. Here is the statement:

Kevin Faulk of the New England Patriots has been suspended without pay for the team’s first regular-season game and fined one additional game check for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy.

Faulk’s suspension for the Patriots' first regular-season game will begin on Saturday, August 30. He is eligible to return to the Patriots’ active roster on Monday, September 8 following the team’s September 7 opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Faulk was caught in possession of marijuana cigars while attending a concert near his home in Louisiana. Faulk claimed that the items found in a coat were not his, and the coat was borrowed. The charges were eventually dropped, and Faulk apologized for putting himself and his team in the spotlight for the transgression.

The team has not commented on the matter.
