DL Wilfork Faces Possible Suspension

Patriots Defensive lineman Vince Wilfork is in the news again, but this time not for something good. Wilfork apparently is being accused of throwing an elbow to the head of Broncos QB Jay Cutler...

It had to come sometime, the league catching up with some of the questionable hits that is. The latest culprit appears to be Patriot nose tackle Vince Wilfork, who allegedly threw an elbow to the head of Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler in New England's 41-7 victory two weeks ago. Wilfork and his agent are in New York meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell today, and will address the hit in their discussion.

According to reports, Wilfork allegedly threw the elbow to Cutler's head in their October 20 meeting. The move was not caught by the television broadcast, but on the Denver coach's film. The Broncos sent the film to the league for review, resulting in the meeting with Goodell.

Controversy is not new to Wilfork or his elbow when the league fined the Patriots nose tackle $12,500 for a hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman. The injury forced Losman out of the lineup and could be considered the catalyst for their impressive turnaround as then rookie Trent Edwards took over.

Wilfork is probably better known for the poke in the eye of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs last season. New England's defender was fined $15,000 for the infraction and he was forced him to defend his play to the public via the media this off-season.

Should Wilfork miss any action, the Patriots will need Mike Wright and Le Kevin Smith to step in while the former first round pick out of Miami is unavailable.
