Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi may be headed to the reserve/injured list as the veteran defender learned that the latest bump to his injured knee may sideline him for three to four weeks. According to the Boston Herald, a league source indicated that Bruschis recovery time and the teams need to field healthy bodies in a close battle for the playoffs may force the team to place the lifelong Patriot on injured reserve, thereby ending his season.
Bruschi left Sundays game after colliding with a teammate. He was unable to return. Bruschi flew back to Boston for further evaluation and learned that the damage isnt traumatic, but it will require time to rest.
After losing Adalius Thomas to a broken forearm, and having his backup Pierre Woods out with what it reportedly a broken jaw, the Patriots are already thin at the position. New England signed Rosevelt Colvin and Junior Seau, both of whom were out of football until last week, to play linebacker while the team deals with injuries. If Woods cant go, and Bruschi will miss at least three or four weeks, New England may want to make room to sign another body. According to the Herald, that means placing Bruschi on IR.
Head coach Bill Belichick offer only that Bruschi remains day to day. When asked to clarify Belichick would only point to the official injury status updates each team is required to do at the end of the day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
"We will do the injury report at the end of the day like we always do," Belichick said.
Bruschi's teammate Jerod Mayo admitted he missed having Bruschi around to lean on.
"Ever since I came in on the first day Tedy has taken me under his wing and showed me the ropes," Mayo said. "I do miss him. Hes like an older brother to me."
Mayo did admit the Junior Seau's appearance in the game at Bruschi's spot during Sunday's win over Seattle was impressive. He also appreciated having Rosevelt Colvin around. "It is amazing. Junior has been playing for 19 years. It is crazy to see how these guys have come in - in shape. You can tell that they have been working out. I have been really impressed with those guys."
