Two players were selected to represent the New England Patriots in the Pro Bowl, wide receiver Wes Welker and kicker Stephen Gostkowski. It is the first Pro Bowl for each player. The Pro Bowl rosters were announced by the league Tuesday. Players will travel to Honolulu to play in the all-star game following the Super Bowl in February
After leading the NFL for receptions in 2007, Welker's 102 catches through 14 games this season has him second overall for 2008. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound receiver has continued to set the pace in the AFC through most of the year recording 6 or more catches in 11 straight games to start the season - a new NFL record. He is also just the eighth player in NFL history to record back-to-back 100 catch seasons. Welker is the first player in team history to record consecutive 100 catch seasons and with 1,071 yards through 14 games is also the first to record consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
Stephen Gostkowski makes the list in after managing 30 of 33 field goal attempts this season and all 34 of his point after attempts. Gotskowski is the fourth kicker in Patriots history to make the pro bowl. He became the team's all time leader for field goal accuracy this season converting 71 of 83 field goal attempts (85.5%).
