Patriots Announce Coaching Changes

The Patriots announced three changes to their coaching staff this week. New England named Scott O'Brien as the new special teams coach, Bill O'Brien was named the new quarterbacks coach and Josh Boyer is the new defensive backs coach.

Scott O'Brien is new to the Patriots coaching staff. He was first hired by Bill Belichick with the Cleveland Browns. From there he moved around the league as a special teams coach. O'Brien has been an assistant coach for four NFL clubs. He coached special teams for the Cleveland Browns (1991-95), Baltimore Ravens (1996-98), Carolina Panthers (1999-2004) and Denver Broncos (2007-08).

Bill O'Brien was assigned to the role of quarterbacks coach after spending the previous teo seasons as the Patriots wide receivers coach. O'Brien will handle some of the duties of recently departed offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who left to become head coach in Denver..

Josh Boyer was named to the position of defensive backs coach. Boyer has been with the Patriots for three seasons (2006-08) as an assistant coach on defense. He has experience working with defensive coordinator Dean Peese from their time together at Kent State.
