Patriots Add Eight Players To Roster

FOXBORO -- The New England Patriots announced the signing of eight players to the roster on Monday. Three of them are US Naval Academy players. According to Navy records, the signing of three players in the same year are a first for both Navy and the NFL.

The New England Patriots have a definite connection to the US armed forces, and that connection just got stronger this weekend. Aside from running practices with military precision, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick likes to give members of the armed services a chance to show what they can do on the football field. The team announced Monday night that three members of the Navy are now onboard.

Fullback Eric Kettani, wide receiver Tyree Barnes and wide receiver / kick returner Shun White were among eight players officially signed on Monday. All three were teammates at Navy.

According to Navy football sports information director Scott Strasemeier, this is the first time that three members from the program signed NFL deals in the same season. Navy has had players in the NFL previously, but not more than two according to Strasemeier's recollection. In 1998 Chris McCoy agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers and David Viger signed a deal with the New York Jets. Bill Belichick was the Jets assistant head coach /secondary coach that year.

Other players signed include:
LB Vinny Circiu
RB Omar Cuff
WR Robert Ortiz
P Aaron Perez
DL Steve Williams
