Projecting the Final 53 - version 2 -- (Version 1)
September 5, 2009
Updating the list from earlier this week Changes in Red
Who's In: Brady, Hoyer
Who's Out: Walter, O'Connell (released)
A.J. Feely remains an option at QB in the future. Adam Caplan of Scout.com told PatriotsInsider.com that New England could be waiting for roster cuts before they find a QB they like. Brian Griese, Cleo Lemon are also options.
Who's In: F. Taylor, Morris, Faulk, Maroney, Green-Ellis
Who's Out: C. Taylor
Expect New England to carry five backs this year especially after BenJarvus Green-Ellis' 125-yard performance on Thursday. Chris Taylor left the game with an injury and is expected to be released.
Who's In: Baker, Watson, Thomas
Who's Out: Smith
Alex Smith is on the short end of the stick. Put to bed the rumors of the Pats trading a TE to the Eagles for QB A.J. Feeley per reports from Peter King and Adam Schefter. Watson remains too valuable to be released. His role as a FB lets him keep a job.
Who's in: Moss, Welker, Lewis, Galloway, Aiken, Edelman, Nunn
Who's Out: Ventrone
We projected Ventrone to be cut, and still think he will be. We added Nunn to the roster after Thursday night's game, and the Patriots decision to release QB A. Walters. The team already announced the release of Ortiz.
Offensive Line: (9)
Dan Koppen, Logan Mankins, Stephen Neal, Matt Light, Nick Kaczur, Mark LeVoir, Billy Yates, Sebastian Vollmer, Ryan Wendell, Dan Connolly, Rich Ohrnberger, Wesley Britt, Ryan O'Callaghan, George Bussey
Who's In: Koppen, Mankins, Neal, Light, Kaczur, Vollmer, Ohrnberger, Wendell, O'Callaghan
Who's Out: Britt, Bussey, Connolly, Yates
LeVoir was placed on the PUP list and the team announced Billy Yates is gone. O'Callaghan gets the nod over Wesley Britt to stick on the active roster. Bussey a 2009 Draft pick has PS eligibility; Connolly still gets caught in a numbers game.
Who's In: Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green, Wright, Brace, Pryor
Who's Out: Adams, Richard, Williams
The list remains the same with Williams' release being announced by the team already. Brace and Pryor are two 2009 Draft picks to make the club.
Who's In: Woods, Mayo, Thomas, Guyton, Burgess, Crable, Alexander, Banta-Cain
Who's Out: Ciurciu, Lenon, Ninkovich,
PUP/IR : McKenzie (I/R)
Woods, Mayo, Thomas, Guyton and Burgess are virtual locks. Guyton gets the nod over a retired Tedy Bruschi. Banta-Cain is on the bubble and could retain a spot should the team opt to lose one of the offensive linemen (likely). Ciurciu was a long shot to make the final roster. Ninkovich and Lenon are the tough choices here. One or other could supplant someone else on the roster in a mild surprise.
Who's In: Bodden, Springs, Wheatley, Wilhite, Butler
Who's Out: Rogers, Jones, Love
No Changes. Rogers was released per the team twitter post. Jones and Love remain candidates for release with Love being PS eligible.
Who's In: Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan
PUP- I/R: Slater
With the injury to Matt Slater, McGowan remains on the roster. Chung has a long way to go in coverage, increasing the need for a veteran presence on the roster at safety. Slater gets a trip to the infirmary and spends the year on I/R..
Who's In: All
No Changes. What we said last time "When the Patriots drafted Ingram, Nathan Hodel's time was limited. Hanson has some competition in camp, but those distractions were removed before competition became serious in the preseason. Gostkowski remains one of the better kickers in the league."
