He's ok for a rookie. Everyone knows he has a strong leg, but many times his punts either are touch backs or he kicks one 41 yards and is fielded on the opponents 35 yard, when he could have kicked it 65 yards to the 5 yard line. I don't hear much about his hang time which is what I thought made him so good.
He's good enough that we don't have to worry about the position for a while. He's not a Pro Bowler and has some things to work on but I have no complaints. Keep in mind we've been spoiled for the past decade by an absolute stud.
I hope he looks at some old Ray Guy footage and learn how to kick coffin corner punts. That's something Shane seldom did. If King can learn that art, then he would be a Pro Bowler next year because he has the leg, just needs to perfect his accuracy. It looks like he and Janikowski are working things out.
