The New York Giants were finally able to get what the coaches, fans, and players have been waiting for…. a win. Big Blue improved to 1-6 after defeating the Minnesota Vikings (1-5) 23-7. It was not the "prettiest" win, but it was a win nonetheless.
"Our first victory and our defense played great. They played great as a team. Got the victory done and it feels good," said Giant's wide receiver, Victor Cruz.
After losing six in a row, many wondered if and how the Giants would keep going, but this win has shown that they can get back on their feet.
"This is a resilient bunch, I've been saying that all year long, noted Cruz. "We fight, scratch and we're going to do everything we can to kind of be in that game right at the very end and try to be in the position to win this thing… Even when things weren't going our way a couple of times throughout the game, we just kept fighting."
Although the Giants were fortunate as several mistakes were made by both the Vikings' offense and defense, New York's defensive stats improved. Over the past few weeks, many of the players have said once a win was achieved, they would be on a rol;. Cruz still holds true to this statement.
"I think you see a renewed energy from this team and guys kind of feel that first win and want to continue to feel that," said Cruz. " I think our momentum and our energy is in the right direction and we just have to keep it going and keep flowing off week to week."
There were again mistakes that the Giants need to work on in order to get a victory in their rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles this upcoming Sunday. This includes, a missed catch from Monday's game by Cruz.
"I'm beating myself up over it but he pushed me right at the very last minute and made the ball hit my shoulder pad before it hit my arms," said Cruz. "It's unfortunate, but I have to come down with that."
"Even so, Cruz made it clear that things are back on track in the Big Apple.
"Coaches had a smile on their face, it feels good man," said Cruz. "That's what we've been missing. It feels like a party in here after we won today… Hopefully we can build off it."
The Giants face off against the Eagles this Sunday at 1pm.
