Raiders add safety Jeremy Deering to the mix

The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent safety Jeremy Deering on Monday, general manager Reggie McKenzie said.

Deering was originally signed by the New England Patriots in May after going undrafted out of Rutgers University.

The 6-foot-1, 209-pound jack of all trades appeared in 48 games at Rutgers as a running back, wide receiver, kick returner and safety.

He finished with 130 rushes for 578 yards and two touchdowns, 21 receptions for 415 yards and one touchdown, 41 kickoff returns for 1,100 yards and one touchdown and 45 tackles, one interception and one pass defensed while at Rutgers.

The signing brings the Raiders to the maximum roster limit of 90 players.
