Matt Shaub watches with elbow soreness

Starting quarterback Matt Schaub sat out of Sunday’s practice and forced to spectate from the sidelines with a sore elbow, according to Raiders head coach Dennis Allen.

The injury comes after the veteran finished just 13/27 for 110 yards in the Raiders dress rehearsal game against the Packers on Friday night.

“Schaub has got a little soreness in his elbow," Allen said. "He came in yesterday afternoon with a little soreness in his elbow, so we gave him the day off. We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow and kind of take that day by day.”

Schaub has caught criticism for a lack of velocity on his throw, with some of Raider Nation asking to see rookie Derek Carr or even second-year quarterback Matt McGloin instead.

Carr sat out the week-three preseason game due to sore ribs but McGloin came in and threw for 162 yards on 10/17 throwing and two touchdowns. Carr has looked good in his preseason appearances but Allen and Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie have wanted him to sit and learn before being thrown to the lions.

It will be interesting to see how long Schaub remains out with his elbow soreness and what the Raiders plan on doing for their fourth and final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
