Raiders hire Ken Norton, Jr. as DC

The long search for a defensive coordinator is finally over for Jack Del Rio as he has found his guy.

Del Rio and the Oakland Raiders have named former Seahawks linebackers coach Ken Norton, Jr. as their new defensive coordinator.

Norton, Jr. is entering his sixth season as an NFL coach, spending the previous five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks coaching their linebackers. It is his 19th season in the NFL overall, spending 13 years as an All-Pro linebacker for the Cowboys and 49ers.

Norton, Jr. was a key piece of the Seahawks rise to prominence, winning three NFC West Divisional titles, two NFC Championships and the Super Bowl XLVIII title. Over that period, his coaching helped the Seahawks defense rank second in total defense.

Norton, Jr. has shown the ability to develop young linebackers, and he’ll have two solid ones to coach in Khalil Mack and Sio Moore, among some other young linebackers on the roster.

Norton, Jr. and Del Rio both played alongside each other in the Dallas Cowboys linebacking corps from 1989-91.
