Raiders release QB Matt Schaub

The Oakland Raiders have officially parted ways with veteran quarterback Matt Schaub.

The Raiders released Schaub on Monday, giving him just one year with the Raiders after they traded a sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for the quarterback.

The Raiders then selected quarterback Derek Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, who ultimately won the starting job.

The 33-year-old quarterback became even more likely to be cut after general manager Reggie McKenzie signed Christian Ponder last week.

Schaub was set to make $5.5 million this season, which the Raiders will now save after the release.
