2015 Draft Profile: S Derron Smith

A closer look at Fresno State’s Derron Smith and his draft profile.

There’s no doubt the Raiders need to take a look at safeties at some point in the draft with future hall of famer Charles Woodson getting long in the tooth. Fresno State Derron Smith is a good one to look at.

Smith started all 14 games in 2014 and was second on the team in tackles with 93 while also being selected first-team All-Mountain West.

Started four years for the Bulldogs, can play in coverage while also play near the line. Solid in the slot and when covering receivers on his own.

Needs to improve his technique when tackling, but has potential to be a very good player in the NFL. No doubt current Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has some information on his former teammate to provide to the Raiders brass.
