Raiders give Carr another target

After selecting wide receiver Amari Cooper fourth-overall, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie gave his young quarterback another target in the third round.

McKenzie selected tight end Clive Walford 68th overall, giving second-year quarterback Derek Carr a big-framed tight end to throw to.

Walford is a pass-catching tight end that still needs to work on is blocking, but has developed into a somewhat reliable blocker.

Walford was selected to play in the 2015 Senior Bowl, and named third-team AP All-American, second-team All-ACC. He finished with multiple receptions in 11 of his 12 games, including a dominant 127-yard performance against Florida State.

Walford has the ability to drive smaller linebackers off the line of scrimmage in run blocking, but isn’t always consistent.

He’s got some quick hips and a physical build that allows him to threaten on seam routes and run after the catch. He also doesn’t shy away from contact in the receiving game, especially when making contested catches.
