Raiders add linebacker in the fifth

The Oakland Raiders continued their draft in the fifth round by selecting linebacker Ben Heeney 140th overall.

Heeney started all 12 games en route to being named first-team All-Big 12. He produced strong tackles for a loss, and is a student of the football that is always looking to grow his football IQ.

At just 6-foot, 230 pounds, he lacks the ideal size for an inside linebacker in the NFL. Has been known to guess too much while on defense, and led college football in missed tackles in 2014.

He’ll have two good coaches to learn from in Ken Norton, Jr. and Jack Del Rio, and it will likely take some development to clean up his technique and instincts.
