Head coach Jack Del Rio made a change to his defense heading into the game against the Tennessee Titans.
Del Rio benched former first-round pick DJ Hayden from the base defense, instead going with second-year cornerback TJ Carrie and David Amerson.
The Raiders claimed Amerson at the end of September when Carrie went down with an injury. Amerson was inserted the starting lineup on Sunday with Hayden’s benching, and it proved to be the right move.
Amerson came up big all game long, including a huge interception in Raiders territory that gave the ball back to Carr after Raiders kick returner Jeremy Ross fumbled the ball on a kickoff.
On top of that, the former second-round pick by the Washington Redskins also finished with six passes defensed as Marcus Mariota and the Titans kept going his way.
Amerson could prove to be a huge pickup by the Raiders front office if he continues to develop into the cornerback that many thought he could be in the 2013 NFL Draft.
