While it's not the big signing announcement much of Raider Nation wanted (S Eric Weddle), the Oakland Raiders made another move on Monday.
The team announced they have signed free agent linebacker Daren Bates.
Bates signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and then played in 44 games over the last three seasons. Bates made his living mostly on special teams, totaling 24 specials teams tackles and 25 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one pass defensed on defense. He has also blocked a field goal and scored a special teams touchdown on a fumble recovery.
Last season, the 5-foot-11, 225-pounder posted four tackles (four solo) and one pass defensed, and finished third on the team with 10 special teams tackles in 15 games played.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Bates played in 49 games at Auburn, totaling 316 tackles. He earned third-team All-SEC honors as a senior after leading the Tigers with 94 tackles.
