Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is ready for the upcoming season, and thinks his teammate Khalil Mack is ready to build on an outstanding second year.
Mack finished second in the league in sacks, getting to the quarterback 15.5 times. Carr thinks Mack has the chance to beat the NFL record for sacks in a season, which currently sits at 22.5 set by Michael Strahan.
"I think he's going to sack the quarterback 30 times," Carr recently told Adam Schein on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio. "Watch the tape. He's held every play. He's like nobody else in the league. He's talented."
While the prediction seems a little ridiculous, you have to love the optimism surround this young Raiders team. It's not the first bold prediction to surround the Raiders defense, which added some more talent by signing linebacker Bruce Irvin, cornerback Sean Smith and safety Reggie Nelson. Mack commented earlier in the offseason that the Raiders defense should eventually be as good as the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos' defense.
As usual, only time will tell how close these predictions may come.
