A look at the Raiders running back position

A look at the Oakland Raiders running back position as the team is set to start training camp.

The Oakland Raiders are set to begin training camp in the end of July. To prepare, here's a quick positional breakdown of the running backs.

On the roster: Latavius Murray, George Atkinson III, Roy Helu, Jr., Taiwan Jones, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington

Projected starter: Latavius Murray

Analysis: Incumbent starter Latavius Murray is coming off of his first Pro Bowl season in which he carried a hefty load where he carried the ball 266 times for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns. Murray will be the starter again, following behind a big offensive line that will be much-improved with guard Kelechi Osemele on the team now.

Now it appears Murray should have a little more help in the backfield after receiving very little help from Roy Helu, Jr. and Taiwan jones last season. The Raiders drafted DeAndre Washington in the fifth round of this year's NFL Draft, a player that improved every year over his four-year career at Texas Tech. Washington has appeared to be a smaller, shifty back that should compliment the bigger Murray fairly well.
