The Oakland Raiders helped celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by partnering with a local Ballet Folklorico performance group.
The performance was designed to help educate local undeserved youth from Roosevelt Elementary School in San Leandro about the history of Ballet Folklorico and its significance to the heritage of Mexico and Latin American culture.
Linebacker Shilique Calhoun, guard Gabe Jackson, running back Taiwan Jones and wide receiver Jaydon Mickons joined the Mexico Danza dancers and students in an energetic Ballet Folklorico session, learning the moves. The group also put on their own performance.
The event is part of the Play 60 movement, aimed to show that dance is an easy and fun way to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
