Raiders announce transactions ahead up matchup against Panthers

The Raiders made a couple of moves on Saturday to boost their defense.

The Raiders announced they signed linebackers Tyrell Adams and James Cowser to the active roster from the practice squad. In corresponding moves, the team released T Matt McCants and waived tight end Ryan O'Malley.

Adams joined the Raiders' practice squad on Oct. 5 following stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Seahawks in 2015, and spent the 2015 season on the practice squads of the Seahawks and Chiefs. This year, he has also spent time on the Chiefs' practice squad. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder played in 44 games at West Georgia, totaling 220 tackles, three sacks and four interceptions.

Cowser was originally signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in May 2016. He was waived/injured by the team on Sept. 3 before being signed to the practice squad on Oct. 4. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder played four years at Southern Utah, setting the NCAA FCS record with 43.5 career sacks.
