Lopez to coach DBs

Clayton Lopez has been hired by The Oakland Raiders as the defensive backs coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Ron Lynn held that position since 2000.

Lopez spent the past five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. After spending his first three seasons as the defensive quality control coach, he moved into the role of defensive assistant/secondary for the 2002-03 seasons.

Lopez began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Nevada, from 1995-96, before joining the Wolf Pack staff as a full-time assistant as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator from 1997-98.

A former safety at Nevada, Lopez helped guide the team to three conference titles from 1991-94, finishing his career with 150 tackles and three interceptions. He finished third on the team with 78 stops his senior year.

Lopez grew up in Los Angeles, where he was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track at Serra High in Gardena, Calif.
