A Stone's throw across the Bay

The Oakland Raiders bolstered their offensive line Monday via the free agency route.

Oakland signed offensive guard Ron Stone, the team announced Monday. Stone is a three-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro has played in two Super Bowls, one with the New York Giants (XXXV) and one with the Dallas Cowboys (XXX).

"Ron adds Pro Bowl caliber experience to our team," said Raiders head coach Norv Turner in a released statement. "He is a big, physical and versatile player and we're excited to add him to our offensive line."

The 6-5, 325-pound Stone started for San Francisco, which recently released him in a salary cap move. Stone started the past two seasons at right guard where the team ranked fifth in total offense, fifth in rushing offense and 10th in passing offense.

The 10-year NFL veteran has played in 152 games with 121 starts for the 49ers (2002-03), New York Giants (1996-2001) and Dallas Cowboys (1994-95), seeing action at every position on the offensive line at one time or another during his career.

The former Boston College star has been selected to three-consecutive Pro Bowls (2000-02), one with San Francisco and two with New York. Stone entered the NFL as a fourth round selection by the Dallas Cowboys in 1993.
