Garner back with Gruden

Running back Charlie Garner is being reunited with Jon Gruden once more.

Garner, who voided the final year of his contract with the Oakland Raiders, signed Tuesday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 32-year-old Garner had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last week, has played 10 NFL seasons for Philadelphia, San Francisco and Oakland. Garner's deal is for four years and $10 million.

Garner has been one of the most multi-faceted backs in the NFL. He has rushed for nearly 7,000 yards, caught more than 400 passes and scored 51 touchdowns. Gruden worked with Garner for three seasons as Philadelphia's offensive coordinator from 1995-97 and again as Oakland's coach in 2001.

Over the past five seasons, Garner is sixth in the NFL in total yards with 7,812, trailing only Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Edgerrin James, Ricky Williams and Priest Holmes.

Slowed by a knee injury, Garner started nine of 14 games he played with the Raiders last season, finishing with 553 yards rushing and 48 receptions. He scored four touchdowns, three of them on the ground. Tyrone Wheatley becoming a bigger factor in the second half of the season perhaps made Garner expendable.
