The Oakland Raiders also made a few other roster moves in the process. The Raiders placed strong safety Derrick Gibson on injured reserve, three days after he dislocated his shoulder in the team's final preseason game.
Gibson would have been a starter for the rebuilt Raider defense but now will need surgery and a lengthy recovery on his hurt right shoulder. The procedure likely will be this week and he is likely to miss up to three months. Gibson was hurt on Cam Cleeland's catch when he made contact with the tight end in the first quarter of the Raiders' 28-24 win over the Rams.
Oakland acquired safety Marques Anderson from Green Bay on Friday to help fill the void at the position. The Raiders also placed cornerback Clarence Love on injured reserve. Love has been unable to practice in recent weeks because of a heal injury.
The Raiders also released OL Todd Wike, QB Brett Engemann, S Keyon Nash, DE Shawn Johnson, LB Cody Spencer, OL Blaine Saipaia, OL Corey Hulsey, OL Robert Hicks, LB Maugaula Tuitele, DL David Nugent, LB Bobby Brooks, LB Dwayne Rudd, DB Ike Charlton and FB Chris Hetherington.
