Still the chance to avoid Silver & Black-out

The Oakland Raiders did not sell out Sunday night's matchup against Super Bowl XXXVII opponent Tampa Bay by the NFL's 5:30 p.m. deadline. The Raiders, however, were granted a 24-hour extension to avoid another local television blackout.

Reportedly, about 5,000 tickets remained as of late Thursday afternoon. ESPN will carry the game nationally, and KTVU (Channel 2) -- which already has filmed a pregame show in anticipation of the broadcast and has committed to a postgame show regardless. The station will broadcast it locally if the remaining tickets are bought by 5:30 p.m. today.

In past seasons, local affiliates KGO (Channel 7) and KTVU have purchased blocks of no more than about 1,500 tickets to ensure selected Monday night and Sunday night broadcasts would be seen in the Bay Area.
