Raiders resign Stone

Guard Ron Stone did not stay a former Oakland Raider for long.

One week after the Oakland Raiders waived him to facilitate the signing of New York Jets running back Lamont Jordan, the Raiders resigned Stone. Oakland signed Stone as a free agent from the San Francisco 49ers last season.

The 6-5, 325-pound Stone is a three-time Pro Bowler but started just five games due to a left knee injury. Despite that limited playing time, the Raiders thought enough of Stone's ability to help them that they resigned him.

"We're pleased to have Ron Stone back on our football team," Raiders head coach Norv Turner said in a statement released by the team.

The Raiders finished last season with Brad Badger and rookie Jake Grove as its starting guards. Stone, who has also played for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, will challenge for a starting spot, assuming Oakland keeps him.
