Raider Sunday notebook

The Oakland Raiders placed safety Jarrod Cooper on the Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday, head coach Norv Turner said after the team wrapped up its lone practice on a sweltering afternoon in Napa, CA.

Cooper sustained a knee injury at the Oakland Raiders May minicamp and recently had surgery.

The PUP list is not the same as injured reserve, meaning a player cannot return even if he is physically healthy enough to do so. The PUP format is that if these individuals are not ready by the time the Raiders trim the roster to 65 players, Oakland can either extend their respective stints the PUP list through the sixth week of the regular season. At that point, there is a three-week practice window before either returning to the 53-man roster or end the season on injured reserve.

Johnson dinged, Woodson day-to-day

Linebacker Tim Johnson left practice briefly after colliding with wide receiver LaShaun Ward and safety Marques Anderson. Johnson was briefly administered to before returning.

Turner added that cornerback Charles Woodson is still listed as day-to-day with a groin injury while Carlos Francis (hamstring) might take "a little bit longer."
