"It got quiet then loud," Raiders head coach Norv Turner said. "We're trying to practice our ones against ones. Today we were doing our look teams. Young guys don't know how to handle that. When you're presenting the other team's package, we want to have close cover and play off of him at the end."
Playing time breakdown
As is the case with most any exhibition game, Turner will focus more on number of plays each player participates as opposed to quarters.
Turner added that Oakland would use three quarterbacks: Kerry Collins, Marques Tuiasosopo and Andrew Walter. In terms of signaling plays, Tuiasosopo will rely them to Collins. Walter and Tuiasosopo will do so for each other. Turner will perform the same role in one of the ensuing game.
"There's a group of guys we're going to try to get 15-18 plays," Turner said. "That usually gets to about a quarter. Sometimes it takes more and sometimes it takes less. There's two or three starters on each side we're going to evaluate and they may play more."
Treu, Porter continue to mend
Wide receiver Jerry Porter (hamstring) and center Adam Treu (calf) continue to recover from their injuries and will be out of action for Saturday's game. Both players, however, should be available for the Aug. 20 game at Houston.
"Adam wants to dress for the game and actually told me he could play," Turner said. "He'll start practice on Monday. I think Porter is moving along pretty good."
Defensive tackle Kenny Smith will long snap in place of Treu.
The Raiders will remain in Napa, CA, for training camp until Wednesday before departing for Houston. The Raiders play the Texans on Aug. 20 and will have joint practices in Houston on the two days before the game.?
