Raiders clear roster space

The Oakland Raiders cleared some room on the roster with the onset of training camp just days away. They terminated the contract of offensive guard Cameron Spikes and released linebackers Roger Cooper and Shawn Morgan and defensive end Jeff Green.

Spikes, a seven-year veteran, had appeared in 63 games over his career with 30 starts. The 313-pound guard spent his first three season with the St. Louis Rams before moving on to Houston, Arizona and Denver. The Raiders signed him on April 18.

Cooper spent the year in NFL Europe with the Frankfurt Galaxy after spending time on the San Diego Chargers practice squad last season. He spent most of the year on injured reserve overseas. The linebacker out of Montana State was a four year starter who was used as a rush linebacker out of a three-point stance in college.

Morgan was also an NFL Europe representative, his second year overseas. He tallied five tackles on defense and five on special teams for Amsterdam.

Green was allocated to Europe and played for the Berlin squad, registering 13 tackles, one sack and two passes defensed.

The Raiders also intended to release Pasha Jackson but he has been placed on the NFL Europe injured list because he did not pass his NFL Europe exit physical.
