Shell happy to head home

Art Shell says he is impressed with his Oakland Raiders and the work they put in but is happy to be leaving Napa for Alameda where the learning will continue.

Back in football after a 12-year hiatus, Shell is confident the team assemlbed has the talent to compete as early as this year.

Shell previously served as the Raiders' coach from 1989-94, leading them to a divisional championship in 1990 and an overall 56-41 record.

After assistant coaching stops in Kansas City and Atlanta, he served as the NFL's senior vice president in charge of football operations and development in 2004-05.

His return to the coaching ranks seemed inevitable and the measure of his past will be marked by his success now.
