Raiders see win escape

Oakland owned the time of possession battle in the first half with over 21 minutes of possession but the game remained tied at 7-7. After Oakland took a seven point lead in the third quarter, San Diego turned on the throttle to score 14 unanswered and get the win.

The Oakland Raiders drove deep into San Diego territory on two of their opening three possessions, coming away with seven points.

Oakland entered the game with just three points scored on their opening possession through the first ten games of the season. They had a chance to double that total but Sebastian Janikowski missed wide left from 36 yards.

They would score on their third possession. A one-yard touchdown run from ReShard Lee capped a 70-yard drive. It was just the ninth offensive touchdown of the season for Oakland.

San Diego tied the game three plays later. Antonio Cromartie logged a 91-yard kickoff return and LaDainian Tomlinson crossed the goal line for his 23rd touchdown of the year.

With just one second half touchdown all season long, Aaron Brooks, John Madsen, and the Chargers ignored the facts with a third quarter touchdown.

Brooks hit a wide open Madsen on the left sidelines on blown coverage from Stephen Cooper and Madsen took it down to the two-yard line to complete a 57-yard pass play. Madsen caught his first NFL touchdown on the next play – the first third quarter score of the season for Oakland – and a 14-7 Oakland lead.

San Diego tied the game up after the Raiders failed to turn an Nnamdi Asomugha interception into points. Aaron Brooks was intercepted deep in San Diego territory by Quentin Jammer and the cornerback returned it 35 yards. After a strange fourth down conversion which saw San Diego receiver Vincent Jackson throw a forward pass illegally after not being touched on a completed pass, Tomlinson received a toss left and instead of running the ball he hit a wide open Antonio Gates for the touchdown.

Tomlinson had his second rushing touchdown of the game after the Oakland offense went three-and-out. He had a 44-yard run and completed the drive with a ten-yard touchdown scamper.

The Raiders had one last possession. Chris Carr returned the kickoff to the Oakland 43. But the offense went in reverse and Drayton Florence ended the game with a fourth down interception.

The Raiders have not won an AFC West game since November 28, 2004 when they beat Denver 25-24.
