Raiders punter Shane Lechler declared himself "back to normal" after Wednesday's practice.
Lechler, who has been out since the first exhibition game with a quad injury in his right (kicking) leg, viewed things in that manner after having several kicks of 75 yards and 80, in some cases. That situation is a far cry from last week when Lechler still had some lingering pain that limited his kicks to about 42 yards. That average might be great for most punters but not Lechler, a two-time Pro Bowler who has a 46.2 career average.
The Raiders have a bye week before returning to action against the Tennessee Titans at home.
"They'd have to tie me down from missing this one," Lechler said.
Raiders head coach Bill Callahan, however, is not as quick declare Lechler ready even though it is a strong possibility. The Raiders practice Thursday before having the weekend off and return Monday. Lechler making it through Monday without any glitches will likely be the determining factor.Kevin Stempke has performed commendably in Lechler's place, averaging 42.4 yards on five punts. The Raiders will assuredly cut Stempke when Lechler returns.
