Lechler ready, Collins not quite yet

There's good news on Raiders punter Shane Lechler but the news is not quite as good on right guard Mo Collins. Lechler has been out of action since Oakland's first exhibition game with a quad injury while Collins has been out of the lineup because of arthroscopic knee surgery. Collins still could play Sunday at home against Tennessee but Lechler is sufficiently healed.

The Raiders were going to make a definitive choice on Lechler after Monday. Lechler was back at practice getting the distance on kicks that made him a two-time Pro Bowl performer.

Oakland head coach Bill Callahan said that Lechler will start Sunday and indicated no soreness. Lechler's return to action likely means the of Kevin Stempke's stint with the club, which free up a roster spot. Callahan, however, did not say definitively which position the Raiders would add to.

Collins, meanwhile, was possibly slated to return this week but he did not practice Monday. Callahan is hopeful that Collins will practice Monday but the Raiders continue to take a cautious approach with him. If Collins does not go, Frank Middleton will continue to start at right guard with Matt Stinchcomb getting the nod at left guard.
