Raiders to workout Culpepper on Tuesday

The Raiders will bring in quarterback Daunte Culpepper for a workout on Tuesday, coach Lane Kiffin acknowledged.

Culpepper, released by the Miami Dolphins in the offseason, worked out for a member of the Raiders personnel department in Florida on Monday.

The session apparently went well enough that Oakland is flying Culpepper out to California and will have him in Napa for an additional workout.

"Anytime that we have a chance to investigate something that can help our team win, we're going to do it," Kiffin said. "Obviously Daunte is something that we've been looking into for a little bit. This is kind of the climax of it, working him out tomorrow."

Kiffin did not hesitate when asked if working Culpepper out was related to the holdout of first-round draft pick JaMarcus Russell.

"Sure it is," Kiffin said. "You've gotta protect your team, gotta put yourselves in the best position to win and make sure that you have the right depth and competition at each spot."
