Walter was picked off twice, once by reserve cornerback Marquice Cole and another by backup linebacker Ricky Brown. McCown was also intercepted by Cole, while Culpepper had his long pass intended for Johnnie Morant picked off by Levonne Rowan.
One of Walter's interceptions came during a 7-on-7 drill when there were no offensive or defensive linemen on the field. "We have to break some habits, some practice habits, that a lot
of quarterbacks are in," Kiffin said. "When the rush comes, "OK, I was kind of sacked so I just throw the ball up.' Well, we're not going to do it that way because you practice the way you play. We've got to break those habits. That's the way a lot of people practice so that's years of habits these guys have. We're not going to do that."
LONG-SNAPPED?: The Raiders lost one of their cornerstone players when long-snapper Adam Treu failed his physical and was released by the team. Since then Oakland has been holding auditions for his replacement in training camp, with linebacker Jon Condo getting the early edge.
Backup center Chris Morris didn't help himself at all Friday when he snapped the ball clear over the head of punter Shane Lechler and through the uprights behind him. With the team in stunned silence, a young observer declared "Field goal!" as the ball sailed between the goalposts.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Chris Clemons is listed as a linebacker on the Raiders' training camp roster but he's been working almost exclusively as a defensive end. With Derrick Burgess still on the mend from hernia surgery, the fourth-year pro from Georgia has taken advantage of the opportunity and played well through the first week of training camp, taking most of the reps in Oakland's nickel package.
Cole also had a strong day Thursday with two interceptions in the morning practice.
INJURY UPDATE: Burgess, who was placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP), could be back on the field as early as next week, Kiffin said … Rookie running back Michael Bush, also on the PUP list, isn't as close to returning. The Raiders are maintaining their cautious approach with Bush, who suffered a broken leg his final year at Louisville … Linebacker J.J. Milan and offensive lineman Adrian Klemm were released … Linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski injured his knee in practice Thursday and was taken for an MRI. Results were not available, but Kiffin said it could be a significant injury.
